WHO IS TAPP METHODIST CHURCH IN BOSTON, TX.

The Story of Tapp Methodist Church in Boston, Texas.

The history of the New Boston Methodist Church begins at the Methodist Church in Red  Bayou where many of the pioneers were members. As the town of New Boston grew, the need for a more accessible place of worship was recognized. On October 9, 1883, the  Texas and Pacific Railway Company deeded Lot 1, Block 36 to the trustees of the  Methodist Episcopal Church, South. A building was soon erected and paid for. Reverend C. E. Lamb was the pastor and Reverend E. W. Anderson preached the dedication sermon.  Thus began the long history of the Methodist Church in New Boston.

In March, 1 900, a tornado swept through the town and the church was destroyed. Before  morning, plans were being made for a new building. Under the leadership of Reverend  George B. Hughes a new building was erected and dedicated a few years later by Bishop J. M. Moore. This church burned in 1910 and was subsequently rebuilt under the leadership  of Reverend Nathan Powell.

Continuing the tradition of building the church to help build the Kingdom of God, a committee led by Reverend Jester White supervised the start of construction on a new  building in 1937. The church was renamed Tapp Methodist Church in honor of Jennie Tapp whose beneficence extended well beyond the local church itself. This new church was dedicated May 23, 943. Under the leadership of Dr. J. R. McGee an education wing was added to the church in 1947. In 1978, with Reverend C.V. Pruitt at the helm, a new sanctuary was built and the old sanctuary was converted to a fellowship  hall.

The next step in the history of the church began in 1995 with the purchase of ten acres on Highway 8 South at the city limits. In 2001, led by Reverend Jeff Hastings, the people of Tapp started  planning the relocation of their church. A building committee was formed and David Turner  was elected as the chairman.

Jerry Hollensworth, of Trull-Hollensworth Architects, drew up the plans. In September of  2003 construction of our new facility was begun by Altech Construction Inc. On February 6,  2005 Reverend Hastings led the first worship service held in the new church.

Thus the history of the Methodist Church in New Boston has been a long and loving one.  The members have served and continue to serve in ministry and mission, reaching out to  people locally and around the world.

We stand ready and eager to continue serving God into the future. And to God be the  glory!
